The Foundation seeks to invest in programmes and projects that have a potential for impact in terms of addressing the needs of vulnerable groups and improving their wellbeing; generating better social outcomes and promoting social inclusion; tackling human development challenges of national priority; and contributing to the advancement of SDGs.

Strategic Goal 1 aims at making funding by the Foundation more impactful by:

• Promoting a results-oriented approach in line with the NSIF Social Investment model
• Supporting national programmes and social programmes/projects involving public, private and civil society participation
• Enhancing the efficiency of funding and monitoring processes

Strategic Goal 2 seeks to foster dialogue, collaboration and coordination between the Foundation and its partners and stakeholders namely, Ministries and public institutions, the private sector and NGOs. It aims at developing partnerships for a more strategic and coordinated approach to funding and monitoring of programmes and projects.

The Foundation works in partnership with NGOs to provide support to poor and vulnerable groups. Strategic Goal 3 is about enhancing the capacities of NGOs to improve the efficacy of their actions on the ground. The key strategies proposed are investment in tailored capacity building programmes, advocating for and supporting the professionalisation of social work practice and improving access to qualified human resources.

The NSIF is committed to a principled way of working. Core values such as professionalism, accountability and transparency, efficiency and service are at the heart of policies, decisions and actions undertaken in pursuit of its mission. Strategic Goal 4 seeks to build and maintain organisational trust by increasing accountability and transparency, quality of service and responsiveness of the Foundation.

Strategic Goal 5 aims at increasing awareness of the role of the NSIF as a leading national institution working towards poverty alleviation and social inclusion and to consolidate its strategic positioning within the broader context of enhancing access of vulnerable groups to essential services and social protection. It seeks to promote the programmes and projects of the Foundation, the issues it deals with, its activities and accomplishments.

Research and development (R&D) enables the creation, application and sharing of knowledge that provide the evidence basis for decision making and guiding policies, programmes and actions. Strategic Goal 6 aims at leveraging R&D to support impactful programmes, inform strategic directions, ensure accountability and transparency and strengthening organisational capacity.
